The W2W Score is a proprietary ranking system that evaluates every major U.S. sporting event across the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, CFB, and CBB to determine which matchups are the most exciting to watch on any given day.

We think that these five factors are what determines the watchability (W2W Score) of a game.

How It’s Calculated

To preface, we get all of our game-day data from ESPN API's. The only thing that we have hard coded are the rivalry values and the marketability values.

The W2W Score is built from four primary categories:

• Marketability: Reflects overall team appeal, including brand strength, fanbase size, star power, and media relevance. Each team is assigned a value from 1–10.
• Rivalry Value: Captures the historical and emotional significance of a matchup. Each rivalry is rated from 1–10 based on sport-specific context.
• Competitiveness: Measures how closely matched the teams are in the standings, emphasizing games where outcomes are less predictable.
• Quality of Play: Evaluates how well both teams are performing, using their combined success throughout the season.
• Importance: Accounts for where the game falls in the season, with higher weight given to late-season and postseason matchups.

These categories are combined to produce the final W2W Score, which ranks games by overall interest and significance.

Additional Information Section

The "Additional Info" section that is available when a game is selectec (clicked on), is a 1 sentence blurb that is made via Claud AI (Anthropic). We gave it some simple rules to follow and so far, it has been doing great. To preserve the environment, we made it so that Claude AI only makes AI blurbs for the top 10 matchups, not all of matchups that day. We hope you like it!
